“The Lonely Burden…”

There are times when you feel lonely, but the Wall Street Journal article “The Lonely Burden of Today’s Teenage Girls” published in the weekend edition of August 17-18, found its way to my hands and eyes this evening. It touched me so that I am preparing tomorrow’s blog tonight before falling asleep. AGELESS WOMEN OF WISDOM is open about the purpose of SHARING wisdom across the generations of women, but there is a haunting air about this that has touched my heart and soul…AGELESS WOMEN OF WISDOM (AWW) has to reach into the current generation of teenage girls. The article line reads “Amid our vast experiment with social media, many american girls are becoming more anxious, solitary and risk averse.” And that is the main story line that social media is not healthy for our young women. In the final lines, “Times have changed, but girls’ needs haven’t.” Not only in families, but with other girls and women it is time to unplug and tell stories, laugh, work together and talk through life’s big questions. I think the part that hit my heart and soul is that this is exactly what AWW aims to do with women of all generations. AWW that warms my heart and I am open to creating a focus on teen girls through possibly partnering with a nonprofit…SHARE your thoughts please in the comments…and thank you

She Did It Under the Willow Tree: Personal Leadership!

I do not normally write about food although I really love healthy food, and I rarely eat sugar deliberately, so please disregard the beautiful teal frosted cupcake. Say the words aloud, and then you will know why I am writing about cupcakes!

My topic today is personal leadership and I want to introduce you to two wonderful young women who led me to the sentiment: MAKE THE WORLD A BETTER PLACE ONE CUPCAKE AT A TIME. The first is Jenny Young; the second is Alex Fox! Jenny and Alex knew each other long before I met either of them.

Jenny is a networker extraordinaire! She also is the founder of SHE DID IT VIDEO in Wadsworth, Ohio, and I have seen her videos, I love her videos, and I intend to use her skill in my business. She is all around Northeast Ohio networking in a way that you want to hug her because she is fun! shediditvideo.com

I have only met Alex on social media, but her energy and leadership in her business definitely matches Jenny’s. Jenny made the introduction, not for cupcakes, but for an artistic talent Jenny raves about, and she is right. If her cupcakes are a reflection of her, they are fantastic! And Jenny says they are! Willow Tree Cupcakes in Wadsworth is Alex’s business. @willowtreecupcakes ON FACEBOOK

So why do I think Alex Fox and Jenny Young are personal leaders not only in their community of Wadsworth but also in the greater Northeast Ohio area? Because in both cases, they were free to reach out, to be dreamers who not only awakened to their purposes and self actualized their lives and their businesses but then went on to align with their soul and life purposes to help others in their community and through each other in the greater community. They became bigger than themselves…they became personal entrepreneurs helping other entrepreneurs. While their individual businesses are transactional, and people want their products–videos and cupcakes–they are both transformational entrepreneurs speaking to health, wealth, and wisdom resulting in JOY to all who cross their paths.

Jenny and Alex are Agents of Transformation! Smile for the camera and eat those cupcakes and make the world a better place!

who is generation z?

Timing

Were you born between 1996 and 2010?  You are Generation Z!

In working toward creating a Family Legacy of Financial Wellness, I am learning so much!  I know that none of my children or grandchildren are Generation Z.  So, without any bias, I can discuss this here as a part of my Legacy thinking.

Generation Z are very young pragmatists!  They are resolute, smart, hardworking, and entrepreneurial.  They have experienced our first black president in the United States.  They know they can change the world!  They have experienced a major recession with great economic instability and they may be headed into their second right now!  They have experienced great growth in the stock market numbers.  They are now experiencing some major pullbacks.  They have experienced the election of a president no one thought could win.  His promise was to “Make America Great Again”.  Generation Z will help determine much of what the future days hold in all of these areas.

Generation Z is powerful for by 2020 they will represent 40% of the consumers.  They strive for and demand excellence in brands.  They are the “pivotals” as described by Jeff Fromm and Angie Read in their MARKETING TO GEN Z book.  They look at price and value.  They have been mobile since birth; but they are old souls in young bodies.  They actually trust their parents.

Their values include diversity, equality, collaboration, and earned success.  At the same time, they are obsessed with their social life, they care but are not connected, and they have social media but their use is questionable.  They live IRL “In Real Life”, and their FOMO “Fear of Missing Out” and FOLO “Fear of Living Offline” is real.  Facebook is not dead to them, but they scroll more than they post.  They get their info from Twitter!  They also lead Instagram which inspires them!  Snapchat is their go to app.

Their influence is also at home even with the changing family structure.  They influence family decisions.  They want to know real people rather than celebrities.  Their brand is “ME” and want to be understood, seen, and grow.  They listen to be heard.  They are empowered consumers in their society of conscious capitalism.

They are a generation to be involved in a Family Legacy of financial wellness…I hope we are all listening to them so that we may all be heard as we move into our futures!

Going Live with Mental Strength

choose-your-battles

Proving yourself wrong is one of the strongest thing you can do to gain mental strength.  There have been times that I felt that everyone deserved the kindest attention from me; and I was wrong.  There were times that I felt I had to always work on the relationship with my siblings; and I was wrong.  There have been times that I attended an event because I felt I “should” be there; and I was really wrong.

Picking your battles does not always work; so pick the activities that feel right in your soul!  Your soul, your intuition, tell you what is really right most of the time.  And yet, we do not listen.  So, listen!  Trust yourself.  I have shed the “friends” who had their own motivation throughout the years, including the BFF and the lover!  Their motivation had everything to do with them and little to do with our friendship or relationship.  FEAR was their biggest motivator as I knew secrets they never wanted their spouse or family to know.  Interesting that it took years for me to realize this.  And I have stopped supporting them in their secrets.

But “picking battles” can also be very personal.  I never thought I would be good on live social media, and I was wrong.  I went “live” with a Monday, Wednesday, Friday “It’s Your Money” on EMPOWER EXCELLENCE @financialwellnessforall at 9 am today, and I was damn good.  Tune in to see what happens when you become your own BFF and learn to really love yourself…no more battles, just do it!

The Election is OVER!

Positive Me

There may be 24 days until the election, but I have voted, and it is over for me!

This has been a year of energy-sucking from all directions.  And it is over!

October is my birthday month, and my new year is beginning now.  While I do not want to talk about it at all, in summary, I was so out of alignment doing my mail-in election ballot that I have no desire to talk about government, candidates, elections ever again.  So that is over.  I am a strong energy believer; it is what my business is based on; and it is how I have turned my life around in the past 8 years.  From here on in, positive energy is all I really want to be surrounded with.  That does not mean that I am denying that negativity is out there; it means that I will choose the energetic environment in which I will dwell.  This decision will continue to remove me more and more from social media on a personal level.  Yes, I will share positive posts periodically, but being a positive force in a negative arena is a form of energy-sucking, and that is not for me any longer.

So, join me, become a positive energy person.  If you make this one change, and it is a small one if you do it step by step, you will begin to find more joy in your life…and this is what I am recommending…
