This is all about YOUR WHY and My WHY…because decisions are made from a point of logic or a point of feelings. There are a few of us in the world who start with Simon Sinek’s GOLDEN CIRCLE which has its center WHY. There are others who start with WHAT. The WHAT is the outermost circle and is used by most financial institutions and others trying to sell you WHAT they think you need. Then they move to the middle circle of HOW. But they do not get to the WHY until they have already decided what is best for you. But I start in the center with WHY, and that is all about feelings, from your heart, your gut feeling, etc. This is the part of your brain that starts with WHY, moves to HOW, and at the end with WHAT. This is why I am so different than traditional financial folks, and only those who believe what I believe find comfort in working with me. I am always asking “How does that feel?” Because this is where decisions either feel tight or wrong in the end. But, of course, you do not always recognize that feeling as being derived from YOUR WHY. But, if you spend the time to find YOUR WHY, decision making becomes so much easier in all parts of your life. I begin with YOUR WHY and money including helping you find YOUR WHY to make your money relationship better.
Talking about a journey being feeling or acting, let’s be more specific. Finding your “why” about life leads to your “why” about money. What is right about money in your life, and what is wrong about money in your life. These are not necessarily apparent to others who know you even your closest family and friends. It is all about what wakes you up in the middle of the night with happiness and joy or wakes you up with the horrible negative “what if’s”.
What you are feeling inside your head, heart, and soul is the first place to look at your “why” with money. What would you like to feel about your money. When you identify that, you can begin to change your thought process in a constructive way. When your thoughts are more aligned with what you want, you are on the trail of your “why”. What do you want to feel like comes first, even if it is identifying “things” you want in your life because the first question I would ask you as a client”how does that make you feel”. “How does that make you feel?”
Getting the feelings out into the open, out of your head, heart, and soul begins the journey of feeling about money. There might be guilt, there might be shame, but getting it “out” tends to bring a small amount of relief which leads to the beginning of “belief” with which you can begin your journey of feeling. The journey of action will come later when you see that you can feel differently. How does that make you feel?
So many folks think that Personal Sustainability is all about the Power of Attraction or Abundance. While that is a part of Personal Sustainability, it is not what I am focusing on with my Personal Sustainability work. In fact, the focus is on our relationship with money and how that affects our Personal Sustainability. The main areas begin with the money relationship and spread out to the energy and the power of the mind, body, and spirit. But to get there, the money relationship needs to be explored and eventually understood before any significant change in any part of our lives can occur.
The fundamentals of money — saving and spending– are a part of the money relationship; but, once again, that is not my focus. My focus with a Personal Sustainability slant is being comfortable with making decisions about money, no matter how much or how little you have. There could be volumes written about this, but most people only want to get more and how to do that. Not my thing. My thing is the energy and the power of money. And money does have energy, just as you do; and money has power inasmuch as it allows you to become Personally Sustainable in your mind, your body, and your spirit.
I am often asked how do I decide what to write about daily, and that is an interesting question. Today, and on many days when I am experiencing positive energy and power from meditation and nature–I have already walked 1.5 miles in nature this morning, I allow the words to flow. There may be an inspiration as today’s is from a favorite spiritual leader, Michael Bernard Beckwith. There may be an emotion or feeling that is yelling to be shared. But the most powerful are when I am hearing the main idea in my head over and over. That is what I am writing about today: Gratitude.
Without defining “enlightened” which could be a whole book by itself, I want to talk about “gratitude”. And gratitude is personal. I can just wake up feeling grateful. I can feel grateful when I get home safe at night with a dashboard indicator light popping on during my freeway drive. I can be thankful seeing a whole yard of the most beautiful golden yellow leaves that have fallen with the windy days we have had . I can be thankful when Trader Joe’s has the couscous I need for a special dish. It does not have to be big, and it does not have to be major. It is the little things that warm my heart and my soul and sometimes bring me to tears.
The above photo is of simple candle given to me by my 3+year old grandson, Liam, after giving me a piece of chocolate cake with this candle lit in it and singing happy birthday to me on my recent birthday! He told me to take my candle home…Yes, that gives me goosebumps I am so grateful not only for the candle but for the thoughtfulness and love this small child has! These are small things that are oh so big and so heartwarming. That candle is on my desk where I work, and I cannot look at it without the feeling of thankfulness for small blessings.
As we continue on the Personal Sustainability path, gratitude and thankfulness will appear frequently. This is an energizing attitude, emotion, and feeling that is necessary to become Sustainable, Personal and Universally.
There is one principle that needs repeating here on the 3rd day of January of this new year: You are limitless! You can do whatever you really want to do if you take the time to figure out what that is and then begin your journey to achieve it. It is not difficult, we just tend to make it so because we let too much of everything get in the way. Seriously, if we take the time to figure out what we want, what we desire, and then take a logical look at how to accomplish it, then it is up to us to begin visualizing it and feeling how it will feel when we achieve it. But stop, an important thing to learn is to act like we have already achieved our desire. And I do mean how we achieved it because I learned a long time ago that it takes work on our part to move towards that desire. But the hardest part of all of this is to start believing that we are limitless!
Are you ready for your life?
Are you ready for the life you chose before you were born to this life?
Are you ready for committing to the obligations you agreed to with your soul while still unborn?
This is a very hard discussion to have with yourself if you have not taken the time to know who you really are. Many of us spend our whole life just “living”. One day we begin to wonder if this “is this all there is?” That is sometimes attributed to mid-life crisis. But it truly should not be a crisis, this is what you are meant to do from the moment of your birth. Unfortunately, life and all of the people, situations, etc. we encounter cover up our true mission in our life. We spend years unwinding everything to get back to our “purpose in life”. And then…we are searching, we are searching for our purpose. It can be bliss, it can be hell.
But when you begin to find the answers, You are finding your power! THE NEXT STEP IS TO FEELING YOUR POWER …and I do mean FEELING…active, conscious, and more. Are you ready to feel that power?
